CAMP – It’s Not Just for Children Any More!!!

May 4th will be a very special worship service at Delhi, dedicated to celebrating our United Methodist camping experiences – and inviting everyone to participate.  Matt German, worship leader for Picture Rocks camp, and at Community of Joy UMC in Bettendorf, will be here to lead the fun, with the willing and able assistance of our own camp counselor, Micaela Mesch.

Before you start thinking that you’re too old, or your children are too young for camp, read this sampling of experiences offered at our nearest camp, Pictured Rocks (just south of Monticello, across the road from Camp Courageous):

§        “Grownup & Me Overnight” (This is one of my favorite camps.  I experienced this twice with my youngest nephew, Ethan, while he was a preschooler.   A one-day camp is also available).

§        “On the Farm” or “Splash Camp” (grades K-2)

§        “Climbing and Caving” or “Life on the Wild Side” (grades 1-3)

§        “”Hitting the Mark” or “Wild Life” (grades 3-5)

§        “Girl Power” or “Duct Tape Camp” (grades 4-6)

§        “Awesome Fishing” or ART” (grades 4-9)

§        “Go Karts Jr. High” or “You Can’t Do That – Blur” (grades 7-9)

§        “Music, Dance & Drama (or Drama Tech),” “Six Flags/Chicago Road Trip,” “Golf Camp,” Mission to the Max” or “C.E.O.” (grades 7-11)

§        “Summer Block Party” or “Climbing/Caving/Canoeing” (grades 9-12)

Other offerings are many and varied, including those provided by the Christian Venture Committee for those who have completed 9th grade, through adults:  a summer boundary waters canoe trip and a Rocky Mountain adventure; a trip to Louisville, KY, for activities from a tour of the Louisville Slugger factory to stops at Mark Twain and Mammoth caves; and a fall boundary waters canoe trip (for adults only).

Details can be found online at www.iaumc.org.  There are also a few books on the camping events at your church.  Or, ask Pastor Lorraine if you’re looking for more.

Don’t let the cost of these opportunities defer you.  There are financial resources available through the church to help with 75-100% of the registration fees for camp.
